Hello All,
I have put together a Yahoo group for Shakuhachi players and enthusiasts in the Southwest, especially Phoenix. I am hoping to build a social and educational community, an oasis in the desert, so to speak. The group link is:

We are having our first meet and greet on Saturday 02/10, to get to know one another and see where we might be able to go as a community. There are only a few people right now, but hopefully we will grow. If you know of shakuhachi players in Phoenix or the Southwest, please pass this info along to them.

Hello All,
We had our first get together for Southwest Shakuhachi. It was very nice getting together with a few others who are interested and working with the Shakuhachi. We were able to share our individual approaches to shakuhachi practice and its place in our lives. We talked about our histories with flutes and the shakuhachi. We discussed flutes and spirituality, including healing, meditation, sound vibrations. Two of us have the Shakuhachi Yuu, another is planing to get one. We discussed bamboo vs. plastic and does that have any meaning in our day to day practice. We discussed basic sound production and Meri and Kari. We were all enthusiastic about the get together and plan to do it again soon.
