I have aquired a new 1.8 shakuhachi and the middle joint is very tight.
Any advice?
Many thanks

The joint on one of my flutes became impossibly tight when I brought it to Australia. I once took it apart and couldnt put it back together properly. I applied a tiny bit of vaseline to the joint surfaces and it then slipped on with no effort.

This may seem stupid but just wait a while and it'll change. You probably shouldn't take it apart even if you can because it may be difficult to put it back together which is a bigger problem. I have had that experience and it's not good. Eventually when it settles in to your climate it will start to function as designed.

I wonder out loud if air freight cabin pressure might not also contribute to this?

For the record: 'Air freight cabin pressure' is the same as the pressure within the entire aircraft, ie, ca. 8,000 ft above sea level.
