Fujara

Check out these beasties from Slovakia. Nice instrument. Overtone flute with three tone holes.

The sound clips at the bottom of the page seem to contain most features of the instrument.

Regards,

Harry.

Re: Fujara

It is a beast. I had the opportunity to see and hear one played in person. Neat flute, but very large, and certainly doesn't travel conveniently.

Re: Fujara

They have a 'concert' grade one on that site that breaks down into three bits. Sounds ok for it too.

Re: Fujara

Wow, some flute.  They look impressive and sound interesting, but has anyone had experience playing one of these?

Re: Fujara

That's a really neat sounding instrument.  There are some nice expressions in those recordings (also some accompaniment I'm wasn't crazy about).  Some of those techniques might have analogies to extreme chokan playing.

And just three holes, eh?  Seems like a nice spot between the complexity of shakuhachi and minimality of a drone flute.
