Zangetsu

Can anyone recommend a good recording available on CD of Zangetsu (残月).  I have a 1979 vinyl recording on the Victor lable of Torii Kyomudo sensei playing the piece, but this was recorded just before his death and he was around 80 years old at the time.  Somewhat lacking air.
cheers
Jeff

Re: Zangetsu

My favorite Zangetsu is Yamaguchi Goro's recording in his 4-CD box set of sankyoku, available from Mejiro.
There is an OK version by the Yamato Ensemble (with Richard Stagg on shakuhachi) that's very easy to get.
There's an Aoki Reibo version available in Japan -- probably SEVERAL Aoki Reibo versions, actually.
And speaking of Aoki Reibo and Zangetsu, one of his albums includes a spectacular SOLO version of Zangetsu -- that's on an album available in the US as well as Japan, though I don't remember the name right now...

On vinyl, the longer sankyoku are often edited for length -- quite a disappointment when you find an old record by great players.

The CD is Take-Ikkan, track  #9.  You can get a copy thru amazon.com

Everything is perfect, it just needs a little improvement.
