Videos of Tairaku playing Taimu

I just saw the two newest videos of Tairaku. He was playing, Iyo Renbo on a 2.4 Taimu, and Taka ne Sashi on a 2.6 Taimu on Ken LaCosse's myspace site. I have to say that it is a really good chance to see these flutes played in a relaxed setting, and at a very good vantage point to get tips on playing long flute. I think the songs where played very well(of course), and the flutes are incredible sounding. When played on the large screen setting, it was almost like having a lesson in posture. Thanks to both Brian and Ken for putting them up, it really was a treat. Might there be more of these in the works?

Hi Jeff,

There will be more of these videos coming. I'll put them up on YouTube periodically.

Re: Videos of Tairaku playing Taimu

Probably I'm just a bit thick, but I haven't been able to locate those two videos.

Would anyone care to post some links?

Thanks,

tsuru no sugomori - Brian Tairaku Ritchie / Taimu Shakuhachi
http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=whmE6i6dbl8

A great 2.4 that Brian makes look pretty small. A great flute. Not small, but feels good in the hand. Nice and strong with a lot of depth. I played it in Berkeley during the August workshop.

Brian Tairaku Ritchie - Improv 2.8 Taimu Shakuhachi

A huge flute for someone who really wants DEEEEEEEEEEEEEP. I could play the Re on it. Sounds and looks like a million bucks. A distinguished instrument.

A 2.6 that I also got to play. Normally I can't maneuver well on a 2.6. This was really comfortable for me. Fine sound. I think this one has sold.

Brian Tairaku Ritchie - i yo ren bo - Shakuhachi

Another great 2.4. Painted in dark urushi like my 2.35. I think Michael Chikuzen Gould now has this one?

Very valuable videos. To hear a shakuhachi player is one thing. To see how he or she plays it is entirely another story. Thanks guys for sharing this stuff.

Ken,

that fat 2.8 is gorgeous.  A real beauty (oh yeah, and it sounds nice too)

Nice!  Mad flutes and playing skillz to match.

Of course, I'm far too spiritual to be envious of either.  No I'm not.

Thanks for sharing the inspiration!

Thanks Matt.

The extreme width of that 2.8 makes it a challenging reach. Many find it difficult. However, a shakuhachi / bass clarinet player friend of mine, Cornelius Boots, came by a few weeks ago to play it. Although his fingers are shorter than mine, he seemed to have no problem making it sing. Maybe it's a matter of will?

Re: Videos of Tairaku playing Taimu

I finally got the opportunity to play (and mostly listen to) a few Taimu's yesterday instead of looking longingly at them on the net, these flutes are amazing. There where moments I giggled like an idiot, every body should try to get a chance to play these, it's a rush, thanks again Brian. Ken these are truly something else, almost life altering!
