A new one from Germany

Guten Tag = )

I just registered after reading in this forum for quite some time.

I'm 36 now, playing around with shakuhachi for about 2 1/2 years and taking it more serious for 2 month, but I was already hooked to the sound of shakuhachi when I was 14 or so, listening to a Honkyoku album three times in a row nearly every day for weeks (don't remember who's album it was). Yes, I had really patient parents wink

There's no teacher around that I know of, but fortunately there a some free honkyoku notations on the net, and of course this forum alredy helped a lot.

Yesterday the 2.2 made by Perry arrived which is definetly a motivating bamboo.

Just ask if you want to know more.

so..hi everbody, good to be here smile

Re: A new one from Germany

Hi Spi,

there is a shakuhachi teacher in Leiden, Netherlands. His name is Kees Kort and is especially good with beginners(has a proper structured plan what to teach and how to teach it), he is a great guy as well. I think you should check him out. Kees speaks English all right.

His web page is www.shakuhachi.eu

Cheers,

Marek

PS: He may know someone closer to your place...

Sorry Phil, ur wrong there. European shk society is www.shakuhachisociety.eu.
shakuhachi.eu is Kaito web site, soon to be updated as well.
(Well, Jim is in Germany, but on the south - Nurnberg, which I think is more distant from where Spi resides than Leiden.)

Regards,

MM

Re: A new one from Germany

At the moment I can't afford lessons anyway. I'll try to learn whatever I can without a teacher until my financial situation allows some professional help ; )  Perry's flute was a quite a big expense for me. But that's ok, got everything I really need.

Willkommen im SHAKUHACHI-Forum, Spiralbrain!

Es ist gut zu wissen, dass es bei uns immer mehr Menschen gibt, die sich mit diesem wundervollen Instrument beschäftigen!

Viel Spass in diesem Forum!

Mike

I wish I would have found this instrument much earlier in my life. But I didn´t know that I was searching for it all those years.

Re: A new one from Germany

There are a few shakuhachi teachers in Northern Germany, but how northern and how close to where you are, Spi... I am not sure.
Here is the website of Fritz Nagel in Markt: http://www.shakuhachi.info/index.htm

As far as I know, the Japanese Myoan Taizan-ha player, Ikkei Nobuhisa Hanada is living up in northern Germany. Sorry, I don't know exactly where. You could email Jim Franklin : dr_jim_franklin@t-online.de
he should know.

There should also be a good Iwamoto student in northern Germany. One for the reasons for why I initiated the creation of the European Shakuhachi Society is exactly so we can find each other, help students find teachers and help each other in lots of different ways. Anyway, I forgot the name of the Iwamoto student. But if you email Clive Bell: clive.bell@tesco.net and ask, he should know.

Tell both Jim and Clive, if you email them, that you got their emails from me, please.

Yes, the European Shakuhachi Society did not take the URL: shakuhachi.eu. We actually got our URL the first day the .eu was released, but we felt we did not want to pretend to be everything about shakuhachi in EU. But we were the European shakuhachi society, so even though the URL is slightly more complicated, that is what we are. Please keep an eye with the site as it will change very soon.

Hope any of this helps. There will be smaller local summer schools held around Europe next year, where we will not have a big one with invitees from Japan, because of the World Shakuhachi Festival in Sydney 2008. But these may also come handy for you. I know Jim and Veronique will do joint ones in Germany and France, and Micahel Coxall and I are planning to do one in the UK.

Re: A new one from Germany

Hi Kiku,

actually, there will be invitees from Japan at one of the summer schools. That is, of course, Prague Shakuhachi Summer School held in half of August next year. All we can say right now is that there will be Christopher Blasdel, Chikumeisha - former Yamaguchi Goro student, comming. However, there are negotians on the way with a MAJOR japanese shakuhachi player. Just to tease you. wink So everyone is most welcome to Prague next year.

Cheers,

Marek

Re: A new one from Germany

That is very cool to know.
So, for local summer schools in Europe during 2008 we have:
Czech Republic, France, Germany and UK (in alphabetic order)! Any more?
Hey, Europe is buzzing with shakuhachi activities. How nice is this???

Re: A new one from Germany

I heard rumours that Kees Kort may also organise something in Holland at some stage. There will be plenty of choice next summer.

Re: A new one from Germany

Hi Tim,

Herzliche Gruesse, udo.

I apologize for posting in German, here is what I had to say in a more
comprehensible language:

"Hi Tim, take a lesson from time to time if there is any way for you to arrange it!
For me, it is an effort (fanancially as well as time-wise) to take lessons with Kiku
in London (I live in the south west of England), but it is worth every minute of
the lesson!"
