From the MultiCultural Center's website (http://mcc.sa.ucsb.edu/Calendar/index.aspx):
Japanese Bamboo Flute with ALCVIN TAKEGAWA RAMOS
Friday, January 25, 8 PM
Music Performance / MultiCultural Center Theater
If it were possible to hear the breathing of atoms, it would probably sound like the shakuhachi of Alcvin Takegawa Ramos. Ramos keeps the tradition of learning and playing the koten honkyoku (original Zen pieces for shakuhachi) strong while exploring and expanding the boundaries of the instrument. Born and trained in Japan, Alcvin is the foremost teacher and performer of shakuhachi in Canada. Tickets $5 for students/ $15 general admission. Contact the A.S. Ticket Office at 893-2064.

The concert tonight was incredible and inspiring! The vibration of Alcvin's koten honkyoku pieces is still reverberating and breating through my atoms.. His gave a respectful presentation which included bits of history, construction, jiari/jinashi differences, and personal experiences.. I would love to have it on video! The pieces themselves transported me, and his intensity at times made my heart burst with joy..
Thank you Takegawa-san.. I hope many other forum members and the public-at-large will take advantage of the opportunity to experience your playing as you are touring!

ShakuNano!
It was really great to spend time with you and Sudama-san (again after 10 years) today. Wonderful energies of openness and love you guys have. Good luck with your shakuhachi studies, keep the great enthusiasm, and hope to see you again in SB or up on the Sunshine Coast of BC @ Bamboo-In! Thanks for the very kind and generous review of my concert at UCSB as well. I was very happy to play there again.
