Re: ものまね 尺八

well, basically the show is called "monomane" or imitation of things, evidently with judges, and the fellow with the major beard (Fuji Teio san) is doing "kuchi shakuhachi" or mouth shakuhachi (giggle giggle- shakuhachi double entendre) instead of "kuchi bue" or whistling. thus he is imitating (pretty cooly) a shakuhachi in Kojo No Tsuki. The hosts are just buffooning around, pretending to go to sleep because it goes on too long and like offering for him to do it again (because no one really wants to here this, it seems) then he goes into a lovely rendition of some enka/min'yo ish singing, with malfunctioning musical accompaniment. To the best of my understanding.....

Re: ものまね 尺八

There are so many absurdities in daily life here that one can do little about, that this convention of *safe* absurdities where you can openly make fun of seems to work as something of a catharsis...or at least a temporary diversion.  I like Ed's theory, however, in reality it's probably more like the mushroom theory...knee deep in shit and constantly in the dark.  Mr. Fuji Teio  is simply one in a long line of folks who offer themselves up to be that safety valve.  He's probably a pretty cool guy.

I'd say definitely Tofu-ryu.

Well he sure has figured out a good way to sidestep the whole jinashi vs. jiari vs. plastic debate! smile

Re: ものまね 尺八

Thanks Chris - great post - he plays better than me!  Don't think he is sidestepping the bore type discussion though - That was definitely a jinashi sound!  He probably saves his jiari for larger auditoriums :-)

It looked similar to some of the American reality TV shows to me. Although I don't understand the "why" to those either.

Sidestep?

This would appear to be the ultimate evidence that material is . . . immaterial.
