Might check in with Phil Gelb (see user list for his email). He's a killer vegetarian chef, you know, and he'll know where to go/be.

If you like tea, serious tea that is, Imperial Tea Court is excellent. The Powell St. location closed, but there is one inthe Ferry Building.

Maybe stop by John Singer's place for a lesson. He might take some Albanian goat sausage and Raki in exchange for a free lesson.
To eat, Thanh Long for crab and garlic noodles.

If Philip Gelb is a killer vegetarian chef, he will probably recommend the killer vegetarian restaurant Greens.
I recommend The Exploratorium, which is a fascinating interactive museum. I also recommend wasting many hours in the Lark in the Morning store on Fisherman's Wharf. Don't park there if you don't have to--parking is 20 bucks. You can sit and tinker with a zillion world music instruments. Another good place to waste time and money is Amoeba Music.
Take a ride across the Golden Gate Bridge and explore a bit of Marin County, too.
If you have 10 days, you will have enough time to talk to locals and get their spin on what's happening. There will be free concerts in parks, poetry readings at City Lights (maybe even by Ferlenghetti), and all kinds of little shops and places to explore. Oh, I thought of another place. Go to the Mission District and check out 826 Valencia. This is a combination piratical supply store (really!) and Dave Eggers-founded childrens writing center (also really).

actually i would not recomend Greens as last 2 times i performed at events there the food was rather mediocre. The better high end vegetarian place in San Francisco is Millenuem. For a less expensive and equally amazing veg restaurant, we have a shojin ryori place in Berkeley called Chaya.
This is a food mecca
My underground restaurant is open this Saturday with the amazing woodwind player, Vinny Golia doing a solo performance!
Drop me a line when you are around, Geni. Would be nice to meet up!
