Shakuhachi for Hiroshima?

Hello everyone,

I am curious who played honkyoku for Hiroshima today (August 6th)?

What did you guys play and why did you choose that piece?

I played Daiwagaku by Jin Nyodo because he wrote it during Japan war times. He was commissioned by the Japanese government at the time to write a piece for soldiers.
I was told by Kurahashi Yoshio that the title is a play on words and can mean "great peace" rather than "great music".

Ok back to crafting shakuhachi!

Re: Shakuhachi for Hiroshima?

nice choice Jon,
I live near Los Alamos where that bomb was made......
It felt appropriate to play with the energy of creating a calm bridge between worlds for those souls who are still caught by the trauma.

Re: Shakuhachi for Hiroshima?

I played a beautiful Irish tune called "suile an choilm" or "The Eyes of the Dove". Having lived in Hiroshima for 2 years and meet many people affected by the bomb, this day will always be close to my heart.
