Hello everybody,
a short message to introduce myself.
I am a french guy (sorry for my bad english) who has begun shakuhachi two months ago after a travel to tokyo. I am a guitar player (but it is not my job...) since about twenty years. I have been facinated by the sound of shakuhachi for a long time (for years and years I did not even know the name of the intrument... but I could recognize it when hearing it). Besides the sound of shakuhachi that I find so fine, I hope to learn new ways to think music by learning to play an intrument of another culture. I also hope to be able to use the flute in my jazz bands in the future.
anyway nice to meet you all!
Chris

Hi Christophe,
Welcome to the instrument and the forum.
Have you found a teacher yet? If not we can advise you of a few teachers in France.
Regards,

Hello again,
thank you for your proposal concerning possible teachers in France.
I did not find a teacher yet but I did not search in fact. For the moment I work with some dvds by Bruce Huebner about kinko shakuhachi. I think that I will go on working with that material for a while (as long as I feel that I progress) and with the help of that so interesting forum!
However I would be happy to have some teacher names in mind since I will possibly search for a teacher in the future
all the best

Salut Chris.
Bienvenue au shakuhachi forum!
Teachers I know of in France:
* Veronique Piron in Bretagne, but also teaches in Paris and Belgium (Yokoyama's school).
* Sozan Chiaki kariya in Paris (Shin Tozan school).
* Jean-Francois Lagrost in Paris (Shin Tozan school).
* Daniel Lieferman... I forgot where he is located. I think Sounthern France. His background is Iwamoto Yoshikazu and Fukuda Teruhisa as teachers.
I know there should be more, but I can't think of them. If you are located near the Swiss border, there is Andreas Gutzwiller in Basel (or Bal).
C'est toujours bien d'avoir un prof au debut.
Bon chance!
PS. Have a look on the European Shakuhachi Society's webpage as well. We just got it registered as a charity. Through ESS we are hoping to spread the knowledge of shakuhachi in an inclusive way. www.shakuhachisociety.eu

Bonjour Chris, and welcome. There is also Daniel El Ghozy in Paris, who was a long term deshi of Iwamoto Yoshikazu.
