Chikuzen's Winter RO Camp

Another RO camp has come and gone.  I can't say how much fun I had at the camp.  Every time I go to one of Chikuzen's camps I have such a great time.   Not only do I get to hang out with other shakuhachi players but I get to make great strides in my own playing.  Chikuzen has a great way of approaching both pieces an techniques.  I have never heard from him that a technique "will come in time".  He always seems to have great exercises to help you grasp a technique or passage in a piece.  Before you know it you are doing what seemed impossible only moments earlier.

Another great thing about the camp is the food.  Not only is it plentiful but it is always delicious.  From Chikuzen's vegetarian lasagna to Rob and Kats awesome mushroom crepes in white sauce.  Just the thought of it makes me long for another camp.  You never want for great food at one of Chikuzen's camps.  You will also never want for a more beautiful location.  This last camp was held at the Stratford ecological Center which is a beautiful working farm in Delaware, Ohio.  We had snow for most of the weekend which was absolute astounding to watch through the big windows in the center while we played flute.  It made for a great serene setting which made me want to play continuously.  Granted I am from Florida where we don't see much snow, but it was beautiful nonetheless.  In September we had camp in Hocking Hills which is one of the nicest areas of Ohio.  I am constantly surprised by the locations Chikuzen comes up with.  If you are looking to make great leaps and bounds in your playing while getting to hang around other motivated, giving and caring players then I can't recommend one of Chikuzen's RO camps!  I hope I never have to miss one and I hope I see you at the next one.  If you ever have questions on the camps please feel free to ask me.  I will always be here to help and answer any questions.  Here are a couple of pictures from the camp.

Thanks to Chikuzen and all the people at the camp who made this such a great experience!

I agree with Brian.  Chikuzen Camp is always most excellent.  I can hardly wait for the next one!

I also had a great time.  Being the least proficient player there, I was impressed with how much everyone works to be sure nobody is left out.  Plus, the food was fantastic!!!  I will try to upload some pics too, but I don't have my camera here at work today.  I've got some good ones of Larry in his skirt. ;D
