Japanese Game Shows

I know some of you live there; could someone please explain the cultural relevance of Japanese game shows? From Shakuhachi, Bushido and tea ceremonies to having an old man take out his false teeth and bite your neck in a library, I just don't get it.

A brief example:

Re: Japanese Game Shows

Shakuhachi, Bushido, and tea ceremony is basically stuff the grandparents do. Most people in Japan prefer silly TV show comedies to a zen flute. (Not me, but I'm a nerd.) I think the closest analogy to Canada would be the number of folks who watch reality TV shows instead of reading Beowolf in old English.
