Hello from San Diego

My name is Tim.  I am an absolute novice who is anxiously awaiting his shakuhachi to be delivered.  I am without a teacher.  I tried to find one locally, but the instructor did not respond to my email.  Perhaps, that is for the best for now.  The study of the shakuhachi is deeply personal to me.  I have not mentioned it to my family or friends on purpose.  My work hours are amenable to maintaining my privacy in this regard.  I look forward to many exchanges with you.  My best regards, Tim

Welcome to the forum, Tim.
Very esoteric attitude to the shakuhachi learning process. Looking forward to hear more about your progress and discoveries.

Re: Hello from San Diego

I emailed Mary Lu Brandwein.  It was probably for the best for now.

I'm not sure if Bruce Jones teaches, but he's a good shakuhachi person in SD.

Re: Hello from San Diego

Hi Tim,
I am in San Diego, and I studied with Mary Lu. Usually she is very good answering emails.
Bill Schultz agreed to come to San Diego from LA about once a month since there are several of us here taking lessons from him. Bill is Dai Shihan, and he is a very good teacher.
Of course, you can schedule to go see him in LA.

Stay in touch,
Eugene
