Ōnishi Baisen?

Does anybody have any information about Ōnishi Baisen?
I know he was a kinko player and Iwamoto Yoshikazu's teacher.
Does anyone for example know his birth year (and in case he has passed away... that year too)? The kanji for Baisen?
Any other information on him would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you! smile

Re: Ōnishi Baisen?

According to Al Ramos, Onishi Baisen also taught Watazumido and was himself taught by one Urayama Ginzan, who was a student of Jinbo Masanosuke. But I don’t know Al’s sources.

Re: Ōnishi Baisen?

Thanks for this, Rick.
I thought it was interesting if Iwamoto Yoshikazu should have learned from the same teacher as Watazumi. After all Watazumi lived between 1911 and 1992, while Iwamoto was born 1945... I guess it still would have been possible. Iwamoto seems to mention Ōnishi as a main teacher, which made me curious and wanted to know Ōnishi's years... + understanding more about Iwamoto's playing style.

Re: Ōnishi Baisen?

Hey Kiku,
You might want to ask Kurahashi sensei. His father Kurahashiu Yodo was also a student of Onishi Baisen and might have some information that his father mentioned. Just a thought.
