Labels and Shops for records

Hi all,

I am looking for record labels and shops, which sell shakuhachi music.

Please your share your favourites :-)

Thanks,
Christian

How about you do a nice Google of 'Shakuhachi music' first, hmmmm?

The first six or eight entries could keep you busy for a week.

Re: Labels and Shops for records

I am familiar with google but I wnat recommendations, not search results.
I tried everything, but all search was overwhelming and sometimes confusing... I would like to know about shops people here have already tried.

It's overwhelming to you, I would guess, because you haven't a clue what to listen to or purchase. The introduction to this stuff is overwhelming for just about everyone, so you should probably just get used to that. If you go to this page http://www.komuso.com/pieces/, along the top of the page, under the title you will see some links:

"All Pieces"  "Honkyoku"  Modern Honkyoku"  "Jiuta"  "Sokyoku"  "Shinkyoku" "Modern" "Minyo" "Gagaku"

I suggest you go to the first two (Honkyoku and Modern Honkyoku), and the second to last (Minyo) and look around there for a while, as there are short samples of almost everything in the database. The album titles and label catalog numbers are there, as well. Here is a good page, for example to start with:

     http://www.komuso.com/pieces/Daha.html

It's a good idea to find out a bit more of what you like; you can know all the record labels and shops on the planet and you still won't know what to buy. Another good place to go for listening is the iTunes store (if you have iTunes), and CD Baby (search for 'shakuhachi', and you'll find lots of good stuff, with samples, many of which can be purchased as downloads). http://www.cdbaby.com/

Get a small selection of things you like, and listen to them. A lot.

Perhaps another good place to look for inspiration is this thread here on the forum:
