Old First Concerts in San Francisco presents:
SABBATICUS REX
Karen Stackpole, gongs & percussion; Cornelius Boots, shakuhachi & taimu-shakuhachi, throat-vocals; Special Guest Mark Deutsch, bazantar
Sabbaticus Rex is an ensemble rooted in the supremacy of sound over music, the triumph of tone over time and thought, an adventure into vibrations, a meditation on sound itself. They combine some of the planet’s rarest, most haunting and beautiful acoustic instruments and methods. Through spontaneous, sustained sound structuring, these unique sources combine to form a resonant, expansive and raw environment.

Cornelius plays Taimu? How cool is that?
I remember him from the Bay Area. He also founded the very cool bass clarinet quartet Edmund Welles. And I love Karen's music. If you can go, I think this could be very interesting! And please write a review!
Wish I could be there! Say hi to them if you go, Ken!

Will do Kiku!
Saw Edmund Welles on Friday. Or did I dream it? A psychedelic morphing of chamber music, Iron Maiden and theater macabre. Have yet to recover!

I'm very eager to check out this DVD!
Also speaking of bass clarinet, I've just discovered Arrington de Dionyso. Fantastic. (I'd like to see someone put a shakuhachi in this guy's hands).
