How to prevent bamboo from rotting

I am planning on making a small fountain very similar to this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1qMrKCu … re=related

I was wondering if anybody knew the proper way to treat bamboo to prevent it from rotting - as it will be waterlogged.  Or if anybody has made a fountain and has any tips.

Thanks!

Kaz

Ah, the ancient pond.
A frog makes the plunge;
The sound of water.

Try these links (Googled 'making a Japanes deer scarer'. It's easy, aughtta try it sometime):

       http://www.squidoo.com/bamboo-fountain

There are at least ten others on the Google results page: http://www.google.com/search?q=making+a … =firefox-a

It's also called a 'Shishi-Odoshi'. This info will probably answer your question, but one thing about such a fountain: the uprights must be mounted
very solidly for it to work properly—solid as a cement footing.

If it were mine, I wouldn't treat the above ground parts with anything; weathering is part of its 'thang'.

I was not conscious whether I was riding on the wind or the wind was riding on me.

I am down with weathering, it's the rot->mess up pump combo I am worried about.  Believe it or not, I googled this very issue and could not find anything about treating the bamboo.  Maybe it holds up fine on its own.

It holds up quite well, especially if you tile the bottom of the hole each goes into, and backfill the holes with small-medium river rock, to secure it.

As in one of the diagrams--instructables, I think it was--for making Shishi-Odoshi. I didn't look real hard, but I didn't find anything either.
Most of the stuff you'd use to really protect the bamboo would not be much on the Green end of the spectrum...

A clear, low VOC, water based epoxy isn't that un-green, actually.  Perhaps that would work?
