Open the nodes or not?

would like to know if somebogy have had the problem with cured bamboo cracking with arive of the spring.

The problem I have is in the first spring after harvest and dry the bamboos on winter.

Can i open the nodes a bit to allow the internal pressure of bamboo to get out??

Any thoughts on that?

Thanks.

Re: Open the nodes or not?

Hello.

I would think that opening the nodes from the start is the best idea when curing bamboo, otherwise the sealed chambers end up with more moisture than those chambers exposed to the air. Your bamboo always cracks from either end right? Bamboo cracks not because of dryness of moisture, but it does crack because of UNEVEN dryness or moisture. As long as each surface of the bamboo is allowed to shed water equally, the bamboo will shrink completely without cracking. But when two pieces of the same material are shrinking at different rates, the material will crack. So my suggestion to you is to cure bamboo with fully open nodes. Feel free to check my source:
