tuning the 5th hole

As I work on my Jinashi and several other cast bore experiments, I find that I am unsure how to approach tuning of the 5th hole. What suggestions do you have for fingering, etc?

When tuning that note, are you covering the bottom two holes and leaving the rest open? It should play the tonic. (same note as ro but an octave higher)

It should also match ro kan. All holes closed second octave. (I open a sliver of the fourth or fifth hole when playing this)

Does this address what you are asking?
