Shortest flute for a bore at 24-26mm

I have a piece of bamboo (85 cm long) with a bore size of 24 mm (top) to 26 mm(bottom).
What would you suggest as the shortest flute I could make on this. It will be my second practise in making a flute.

If I make the utaguchi on a node it will be 62 cm tops. Is it the wide for this? Could I even make a 1.8"?
The wall thickness is about 4 mm.

Re: Shortest flute for a bore at 24-26mm

Well... assuming you mean 'top' as the blowing end, that would be a reverse taper. You probably should use it the other way around (narrower bore at bell end).

62 cm is not too short for a bore of that size, although the hole placement will be different from a narrower-bore flute.

The current 1.8 I'm working on has a bore of around 24 mm at the utaguchi tapering to 18-19 mm at the root. It's certainly on the wide side (aspect ratio of around 22) but this gives it a very mellow, full tone. I'm using large holes to keep the higher notes from getting too dull.

Is it always best to make the shakuhachi that way around? Having the wider end at the utaguchi?
