Air travel with shakuhachi and bamboo

I think with the recent developments at Heathrow in England, that we may be entering a whole new period of carry-on baggage paranoia in air travel.

I wonder how easy it would be to get on a flight in the UK (and soon the US) with a tube full of shakuhachi?

Not worth traveling any more.

But if you do the Musicians Union and TSA have an agreement that musicians are allowed to carry on instruments in addition to their usual allotment of carry ons.

Go to www.shakuhachi.com

Click on "Shakuhachi Tools" and follow the link.

Print it and carry it with you. Unfortunately TSA workers are illiterate and the Union has not come out with a cartoon or hieroglyph version of the letter.

Re: Air travel with shakuhachi and bamboo

Compared to some of the stuff that I've carried on to planes (fairly close to 9/11, no less) I can't imagine any big problems developing from a couple shakuhachi. I agree that air travel is ridiculous. If everyone were able to avoid all trips for a month or two, it would probably bankrupt all the airlines and we could start with a clean slate...

From what I've heard today, for the time being there is no carry-on permitted in the UK. Here is an excerpt from today's
Bloomberg.com:

" U.K. airports were instructed not to permit hand baggage aboard flights, the Department of Transport said.

Luigi Irdi, spokesman for Italian Transport Minister Alessandro Bianchi, said the Italian government is also considering a
ban on cabin baggage on international flights."

Yep... they also cancelled all short-haul flights from Heathrow. You're still allowed carry-on bags in the US but they're banning most liquids, apparently. My parents were just at the airport.

Just imagine, Watazumi wouldn't have been able to carry his hocchiku, nor would he have been able to shampoo on the plane!

Are you implying that Watazumi shampooed his hocchiku?
