This is a hanko from a shakuhachi I saw on eBay in 2007. The fellow selling it wanted $999. It looked like a good shakuhachi. I think it was a 2.0. In the spring of 2008 I saw shakuhachi master Peter Hill when he came to Claremont (Pomona College) to give lessons. He had a very nice shakuhachi with him with the same hanko. The hanko on his flute was darker and less distinct than this one, but I recognized it instantly. No one seems to have much info about this maker's name.

The most interesting hanko since Neptune. Glad to see a sense of humor in this traditional art.
Thanks for posting.

Chris, I didn't know you'd seen any others by this maker. He was old-school I know but don't know anything else about him. I played the 2.0 I had in Sydney with Kuribayashi-san on koto (Kaze no Uta) then one of my students bought the flute from me.
I think it's a great hanko too, nice change from the usual.
