Ultraman Hanko Shakuhachi

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3235/3089750717_26da02fd18_o.jpg

This is a hanko from a shakuhachi I saw on eBay in 2007. The fellow selling it wanted $999. It looked like a good shakuhachi. I think it was a 2.0. In the spring of 2008 I saw shakuhachi master Peter Hill when he came to Claremont (Pomona College) to give lessons. He had a very nice shakuhachi with him with the same hanko. The hanko on his flute was darker and less distinct than this one, but I recognized it instantly. No one seems to have much info about this maker's name.

Re: Ultraman Hanko Shakuhachi

Can you only play it for three minutes before it has to fly to the Sun to recharge?  That could be inconvenient.  However, I'm pretty sure it can kick Gojira shakuhachi's butt.

The most interesting hanko since Neptune. Glad to see a sense of humor in this traditional art.

Thanks for posting.

Re: Ultraman Hanko Shakuhachi

Chris, I didn't know you'd seen any others by this maker. He was old-school I know but don't know anything else about him. I played the 2.0 I had in Sydney with Kuribayashi-san on koto (Kaze no Uta) then one of my students bought the flute from me.

I think it's a great hanko too, nice change from the usual.
