Don't forget to floss!

Dental floss was mentioned briefly in a couple of other threads. Do any makers out there use it to bind shakuhachi? It is used in a video on this site: http://hidetake.yon.to/frame01.html. He recommends unwaxed floss. Good oral hygiene and no cracking bamboo...

Phil,

I've never used it but just now tested its strength. It's stronger than I thought it would be but still breaks with less tension than nylon. Perhaps there are different grades of floss? big_smilebig_smile

Re: Don't forget to floss!

I used to use it for pulling/tucking the last couple of rattan binding wraps taught, but it repeatedly failed and often left an exuberance of spriggly goo.    A true, high-tension nylon string, monofilament or other material (I've also had luck with Kevlar) might be a better choice?
