Hi Antonio
Welcome to the forum! Right now everyone seems obsessed with copyright violations but don't worry, it's not normally like this! The shakuhachi which many people use in the beginning is a plastic one which costs aorund US $100 I think, and is called the "Yuu" shakuhachi. It's good because it is in tune and quite easy to play (as shakuhachi go, which is kind of hard actually!) and doesn't crack (bamboo does if the environment is too dry) so that's convenient too. If you google it you will probably find some sources for it. Not sure about books or videos, others will probably answer you on that. Might depend on what kind of music you want to be playing eventually?
Also there's a very nice teacher in Spain, whose name coincidentally is Antonio. If you would like to have lessons you can mail me if you would like to get in touch with him.

Hola gnarus,
Welcome to the Forum. Please give Antonio a big Hola for me. I introduced him to my Dokyoku teacher Kinya Sogawa around 2004 but Kinya was touring at the time.
Looking forward of hearing of your discoveries,
Namaste, Perry

Welcome Antonio. I hate to say it but you aren't a complete knob that easily (self proclaimed). You have to spend some time on the forum and misbehave appropriately before you can be called a knob by others. You have to earn this. Just like many before you!

Bem-vindo, Antonio!
There is also a good shakuhachi (Dokyoku) teacher in Spain, Horatio Curti: http://www.komuso.com/people/Curti,_Horacio.html.
If you want to communicate with other Portugese-speaking players, there are some wonderful, incredibly enthusiastic shakuhachi folks in Brazil, like Matheus Ferreira. Check out the Brazillian shakuhachi community: http://shakuhachiba.ning.com/.
Good luck! You will love (and hate) shakuahchi!

'Noob' is actually the diminutive of 'Knob', so it's allowed...

Hey Gnarus,
Bem-vindo ao mundo do shakuhachi! Eu toco há mais ou menos 1 ano e o "vício" só piora!
Boa sorte com a compra do instrumento e com um possível professor!
Keep us updated and drop by the little Brazilian community sometime!
Well, this is an invitation to all of you guys, actually! It'd be great if you visited and left us a note.
Cheers!
