O good to know
all right so you do any treatment to the outer side?
By the way, do you know any substance i can modify and make the bore taperd with? like urushi? (but not urushi since i cant get it atm)

I also use water based polyurethane, and I find it dries very quickly, and it is nontoxic and is reccomended for finishing toys for small children so it is safe and tough.
It works great for the bore! I use it on the outside of flutes only if I sand off the skin. It soaks in well and leaves a very hard finish. I have bought a few cheaper ebay flutes that have had the outside spray laquered, and the finish comes off very easily...even lightly scratching with your fingernail.

I forgot to post the pictures of the finished flute, so here it is with its case and some pyrography art work of bamboo and cherry flowers on the bottom back side of the flute. Its not perfectly in tune but it plays with a very soft and pleasant sound.
Hard plastic tube sealed case I made:
After this flute a made 1 with a root end madake, that was fun and its sound was amazing but it was not mine and was given as a gift before I had time to fully explore it…wish I had some more madake,
So for the time being (until the root end I harvested will finish drying) I stay with straight non root flutes, next stage is to learn how to do proper bore taper also on them but my student life are so intense at the moment that I don’t have much time for it.
The second flute is pitched in c(ill upload a picture tomorrow maybe). it has a red cashew lacquered bore, the skin is sanded off bottom outer side is colored in black cashew while the rest is covered with yacht varnish (I don’t have clear cashew) it smells like some burnt rubber now but the smell will disappear in a while from my experience and is not 2 bothersome for me when its dry. Anyway I wish I had urushi but I can't really get it at the moment.
By the way any1 know how to make cashew lacquer thinner other then use pure turpentine?
I enjoy working on this flute as much as I enjoy playing them and also giving them a non traditional (I also love the traditional look a lot) artistic finish since non root end shakuhachi look a little boring sometimes
Besides that it makes me and also other people see them also as a personal artwork and not just a musical instrument
