Figured I'd write something in this part of the forum. Well I decided to write a small review about Mayayuki Koga's East Wind cd. This is one of the first shakuhachi cds I ever bought.
This cd has a nice mix of pieces. Some original compositions, honkyoku, sankyoku, improvisations are included. Here is the contents of the cd to show you what I mean=
01 Gael's Song
02 Distant Cry of Deer
03 Bass Improvisation
04 Sashi No Kyoku
05 Small Gate-Toguchi
06 Beyond Time and Space
07 Improvisation 2
08 Noble-Hisa
09 Rokudan
10 Zangetsu
11 Bass Improvisation
12 Fortunateness-Fuki
I would recommend this cd. Masayuki Koga's playing is excellent as would be expected.

Also one of my favorite CD's. One of the issues in CD's for me, is that many players record exactly the same pieces, so unless you are into the fine line player's variables, of the same piece, you have to seek out music that is different from what you already have, and this one is just that.

Indeed a great CD, this is one of the few I constantly keep in my MP3 player. In an attempt to justify the feel of the music in a single word, 'soothing' comes to mind.

I, too, enjoy that CD very much. It was my second shakuhachi CD purchase, following Riley Lee's Oriental Sunrise way back when...
Cheers,
