It's got some power. I really like the barren landscape and the humming is a perfect fit. Towards the end of the piece, I couldn't help but picture a rusty swingset gliding in the wind.

I've been hard at work learning & practicing a few honkyoku (Koku, Tamuke, Sanya & Sagariha)... my teacher says I could be considered a lower-intermediate player at this point which was both humbling and encouraging, so I haven't done any recording recently. With all of this talk about Tamuke in the 'Ask the Pro' section, however, I'm inspired to make a recording

Heh... you're already a superb musician studying to be a pro -- it takes a lot of work to improve when you've already got a lot of skill. For a beginner like me, improvement seems much easier. Nonetheless, you're right -- the pressure from performing/recording is definitely a good thing. Sadly, there isn't much appreciation for shakuhachi music here in Taiwan (even those who play the instrument don't usually play honkyoku).
