I returned yesterday from 2 months of a life and death journey. On December 7th, I passed out for the the first of what turned out to be 3 times. Naturally, with my cardiac history, we all assumed the problem to be Heart related. However, after the 3rd occasion, I found out that I had Multiple blood -clots in both lungs. I had probably had this condition for the past year gradually getting worse and worse. They could not stabilize my vital signs (kidney, lever, etc.), and the Doctors told my wife that they did not know whether or not I would survive. However, after one week (due to what I believe was 35 years of playing the Shakuhachi, and having extremely strong lungs), I made it through. Then I got rid of the blood clots with cumadin (a blood thinner), and had a "Greenfield filter" inserted in me through a catheter - so that my body would not make any more blood clots. Now after another month in a rehabilitation facility, I have returned to my live- a new man- feeling very spiritual and grateful. I have lost almost 60 lbs. To date- haven't had any angina pain, and have been exercising every day. I am joyously on my way back!
Of course, in addition to the above, I must thank the literally Hundreds of people who were praying for me and who sent emails. I was lierally inundated by love. I felt that I was truly being taken care of-both spiritually and with my large caring Shakuhachi family!

God Bless You. I just had back surgery three weeks ago, and boy was it rough. But, probably nothing like what you experienced. Glad to hear you are on the mend, and that this madening (at times) instrument we all have come to love (and hate) was "instrumental" in your recovery. Shakuhachi is good medecine! Glad to have you back with us. Take care of that ticker.

Ronnie,
Welcome back!!!!!
So glad to hear you are on the mend! Sounds as though you have staved off the Cloaked One for a while.

Ronnie -
(Is there a term for your sensei's sensei; a teaching equivalent of 'grandpa?' I feel I should acknowledge your special role as my teacher's teacher but lack the right term to use... Can anyone help me out here?)
Great news to hear about your progress towards full recovery. Simply fantastic news.
And your note is a great reminder to everyone that is is never too late to re-invent oneself.
As we say in Hebrew: Rifuah Shlema! (Heal Fully!)

It sounds like you had quite a journey in those borderlands. I'm glad that you were able to pull through with the help of the shakuhachi. May you have many more years of happy blowing.
