Hello from Pensacola, FL

Ok guys, just wanted to officially say hi, even though I've had an account since July 07....

To show my mental faculties, I forgot I had the account (even though I read post daily), and have been trying to create one for a month......

Sooo, I guess my username fits.  smile

I was introduced to Shakuhachi by none other than our own Perry Yung, with my 1st flute about 3 1/2 years ago.  I have since bought several from him, and very become a shakuhachi-addict just like some of you here.

The wealth of knowledge I have seen on this board since it was created still overwealms me today.

Peace,
Charles

Re: Hello from Pensacola, FL

Welcome to the board, finally. It has been a long time coming, but the wait, like playing shakuhachi is well worth it.
I had visited Pensacola a year or two ago, nice place, shame about the damage from the hurricanes.

Hi Damon,

Thank you for the welcome.  We have recovered fairly well from Ivan here, unlike New Orleans.....  The housing slump is hitting us pretty hard right now like most of the country.

If you are ever coming to Pensacola, let me know.

Charles

Re: Hello from Pensacola, FL

Hi Bryan,

Well all 3 are Hocckiku rootends.  A 1.7, 2.4, and the best is a 2.2 named "He Bee".  (Perry named it for it's great buzz).  smile

I have 2 others, a Wooden 1.9 made by "Mitsuguri", also retuned by Perry, and an 80 yr. old 1.8 root retuned by Perry.  It's actually still on his blog I think from Sept. '05 or so.

I think Perry is a great maker/repair/retune person.  His wonderful helpful personality goes a long way to giving great energy and Karma to every flute he comes in contact with.

Take Care,
Charles

Re: Hello from Pensacola, FL

Hello Charles from Leesburg Florida! Just 45 minutes nnw of Disney.

I too have several Yung flutes. A 1.6 Madake, 1.9 Black Bamboo, 2.4 Black Bamboo, and a 3.2 Madake. All are jinashi root end with painted bores. I also have a few other flutes including wooden ones and three plastic, 2 yuu and 1 of another brand. All the plastic play beautifully, by the way.

As an aside, there is a flute festival in Ft. Walton Beach the weekend of April 25. It centers mostly on Native American flute, but several of the makers and players also play shakuhachi.

Welcome to the wealth here on the forum.

Dave
