Hugh Tracey Kalimba

I thought I’d share another fascinating instrument, I own a Hugh Tracey Kalimba with piezo electric guitar pickup. These are the highest quality Kalimba's you can find considering they were developed by Hugh Tracey; it's a western take on the African Mbira. They are relatively inexpensive and beautiful instruments, I believe these ones are usually made with rosewood as opposed to a gourd and a bunch of rusty spikes (Hurray for tetanus!). You can stick it in your bag with your most durable Shakuhachi and bring it wherever you go! It's a great inspiration with an incredible sound. They offer many different styles including some with a pentatonic scale.

The first site is a storefront with good examples… the second site seems to be more of a tribute to Hugh Tracey… but they had a caption I couldn’t help laugh at “You are admired by women and envied by men. “

I guess bass players aren’t the ONLY people who get the women. smile
