Looking for a specific piece of Shakuhachi Art

I've seen this image floating around:

http://www.ubishops.ca/faculty/khizawa/japanese/shakuhachi_small.jpg

Is anyone familiar with the artist and whether prints are available? (Blatantly assuming the picture is visible)

Thanks!
Scott

Re: Looking for a specific piece of Shakuhachi Art

Hey!   Scott!     This image is the cover art for Masayuki Koga's  instruction book  "Shakuhachi   Japanese Bamboo Flute".     I looked on every page for an artist credit but could not find one.     I believe Koga Sensei is connected or runs the Japanese Music Institute of America, which published this book,    and the phone number is 415-621-2950 .   I also had a very vague memory of seeing prints for sale either on Ebay or Amazon.com of this image and remember I thought a female Western name as the artist.    Don't quote me on that last sentence, though!!!    Good luck!    Gambatte!!!!!!     MrWuWu

It's also cover art on "How to Play the Shakuhachi" - Yoshinobu Taniguchi. Cover art credit is given as "Sumi-e by Kate Stratman". Copyright is 1985 by the Board of Trustees of Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio.

The one on the cover of Koga's book is quite similar but not the same one.

Check with Monty Levenson - that image has been on his catalogues for a long time. Jane Mukei

Yes. To see the correct credit for this work http://www.users.bigpond.com/bronwyn.kirkpatrick/ "Sumi-e artwork of shakuhachi by Ms Kay Stratman"
