The Fujara--overtone flute from Slovakia

Has anyone tried playing one of these amazing beasts?

http://www.fujara.sk/

It's a 5 foot bass flute that you play using the overtone scale and three holes (beats the shakuhachi by two!).  It sounds like a merry diatonic cousin to the dijeridoo.  Er, although it's called a flute, I guess it's technically an enormous whistle.

I am currently activating my Slovakian connections to see about acquiring this gentle giant to add to my wind arsenal.

Check out the audio and pictures.

Hi Axotl,

Yes, of course I tried - Slovaks are our brothers. My teacher Vlastislav Matousek has two or three. It is not as difficult as shakuhachi at first.
However, I think the size might be better than the sound... If you like it go for it.

Cheese,

Marek

In passionate silence, the sound is what I'm after.

Say, Marek...how much in EUR are the types of fujaras your teacher purchased?  smile  I would be curious if they're cheaper than the ones on fujara.sk, providing they are of similar quality (I imagine they are.)  Thanks!

Re: The Fujara--overtone flute from Slovakia

Hey flute players!
Check out our new PVC Fujara Set. For 90 EUR you get in fact 3 instruments!
It's one part with whistle and joint and two playing tubes in different
tuning. When you want to use D fujara you connect D tube, when you want to
play on C fujara you replace it with C tube.
And when you disconnect the part with the holes you have overtone flute!
(Check video for details) So in fact you have 3 instruments in one in
collapsible variant (much easy to transport)!

There's 2 sets we offer:
- C,D(90 euros together) and
- A,G(99 euros together, longer tubes)

Features:

1. Three instruments in one: two fujaras and one overtone flute!
2. Very well tuned in western concert temperated tuning
3. Collapsible (no hassle during transportation)
4. Extremely light: less than 500 gramms for the set!
5. Professional quality of sound
6. The holes are close together so you can use different fingering and apply
the techniques from other flutes (see video for details)
7. Very easy to play, everybody can start playing right away!
8. Highly durable
9. Cheapest fujara ever!

Painted Fujara with symbols from Ancient Kuzhebar culture or other ethnic
motifs is also available for the order.
