bore

I have drilled and made flutes from wood but never a shakuhachi with bamboo. for a total beginner it looks like you drill out nodes then line or fill bore with a resin. How is this done? fill then drill?? what about curved bamboo? Sorry for asking such a basic question but I can't find information that seems to be known by everyone already in the forum

Re: bore

Hi Clay, If you've never made a bamboo shakuhachi before, I would recommend not using resin. Just do it all natural. The only difference with making a shakuhachi from a curved piece of bamboo is being able to reach a node to knock or drill it out. A thin metal rod works fine.

Let's us know what happens.

peace, Perry

Re: bore

Hello man!

Probably you will get some stranger flutes when you start with bamboo... It's a beautiful selection of nature... those who really like the bamboo flutes will make them wrong...wrong again...and again... again...but we will take the mistakes and learn with them...

A big hug friend...

Re: bore

Thanks for inputs. I have a few bamboo blanks to do a couple natural to see some of the problems and good things with bamboo. I will start there, For future reference is there a site that explains the resin in the bore and how to do it.
