PVC shakuhachi making competition at WSF 2008?

Was there a PVC shakuhachi making competition at WSF 2008?

No because nobody submitted anything. But if there had been Shugetsu would have won it because he had nice ones there. Or else there was a ten piece shakuhachi club from Nagoya who performed karaoke versions of "Edelweiss" and other songs of this nature on their PVC flutes they made themselves. They win for enthusiasm. Another good idea bites the dust! sad

Too bad. I was looking forward to some interesting designs. Maybe "we'll" have to spice things up a bit. 'Win a Lunch with Tairaku' ... That kind of thing.

Same kind as Alcvin has listed on the bottom of http://www.bamboo-in.com/shop/flutesforsale.htm ? I like the pink one and the silver one. Alcvin's sound sample of a 1.6 pvc Shugetsu is wonderful.

One fellow on eBay has some interesting ideas about shaping pvc shakuhachi (see http://cgi.ebay.com/1-8-Shakuhachi-in-t … 0253029811). Tuning may be another issue here, but it's good to see new ideas all the same.

I cast my vote in favor of doing the PVC competition again in the future.  I worked hard to produce a superior PVC shakuhachi, but deemed my outcome unworthy.  My intent is to keep working at it.  I am probably not the only one.
Keep the bar set high.  We'll get there.
