ebay wood flutes?

Hello,
I am looking at a number of wood shakuhachi listed on ebay described as "kochou" made by Wada musical instruments.  I was wondering if anyone out there knows if these type of instruments are any good.  They seem to be reasonable (price-wise) and look to be in decent shape.  I am a novice so I would appreciate any advice on this.  I have read that the David Browns are very good, and they look quite lovely (I appreciate fine wood work as I work with wood) but they are quite a bit more expensive than the others that I mentioned.  Thanks to all for your time.

Re: ebay wood flutes?

Those are decent mass-produced wood flutes, quite suitable for a beginning student to study traditional
Japanese shakuhachi with.

You might also consider the shakuhachi Yuu: http://www.shakuhachiyuu.com/

Also, query the forum here for anyone who might be selling a Yuu.

The David Browns are worth the money, in my opinion.  Maybe that wasn't the answer you wanted...wink

Re: ebay wood flutes?

I have not played them, but based on what I've read on the forum, I expect that your best bet for a budget-friendly, quality wooden shakuhachi would be one that's been refurbished by Perry Yung. He seems to put one on eBay every couple weeks.
