Re: Free "Zen Shakuhachi" recording by Ejun Yechika

Yes I have this same problem on Russian servers whenever I am downloading por... I mean pir.... I mean.... nevermind.

Would anyone who has complete files be kind enough to put them up on a site somewhere for download? I could not download them.

Sorry, better quality files isn't available anymore. I upload low quality files to the rapidshare.com: http://rapidshare.com/files/5807324/Eju … a.zip.html

I have 128 kbps files, about 52MB total size. If you need it I can put'em on rapidshare or megaupload. Let me know.

Yeah, I went to the site; high-quality files were not there...

I have been fortunate in establishing email contact with Ejun Iechika.  He is currently in Japan and will be returning to the Ukraine near the beginning of the new year.

Maybe he can hook up with Monty about selling his album. It certainly has generated interest.

Sorry that the higher quality downloads are no longer available. I would still purchase the album, especially if the bit rate exceeds 128 kps (I transfer all of my cds of shakuhachi into iTunes using Apple Lossless encoding which gives big fat files from AIFF originals at about a third of the original size).

That's an excellent compression ratio for lossless.  I'm actually skeptical, it's so good.  Are you sure?

(I rip all my CDs to FLAC files and FLAC will reduce an audio file to 50-55% its original size if conditions are favourable.)

Chris,

I will write Ejun and inquire as to options regarding the purchase of his CD.    I have exchanged emails with the Krakow producer/owner of the studio who suggested working with Ejun directly.

I will once again invite Ejun to visit the Forum.

Apple Lossless comes in at about 40-45% of its original size if you go by the numbers below. Still an acceptable file size for such excellent quality. All the midrange is preserved. AAC at 320 kbps is good for stuffing files on my cpu at work. Normally I cannot tolerate listening to MP3 for too long. Too jagged.

Artist: Tairaku Brian Ritchie    Album: Taimu    Cut: Reibo 8:54

MP3  low med. quality  56 kbps  22.050 kHz 3.6 MB
MP3 med. high quality 128 kbps   44.100 kHz   8.2 MB
MP3 extra high quality 192 kbps  44.100 kHz   12.3 MB
AAC                        320 kbps  48.000 kHz   20.5 MB
Apple Lossless            633 kbps  44.100 kHz   40.4 MB
WAV                          1411 kbps  44.100   89.9 MB
AIFF                           1536 kbps  48.000 kHz  97.9 MB

The FLAC coming in at 50-55% would be acceptable to me, as well, if it's sound quality were at least equivalent of Apple Lossless, but that would probably be a very subjective call.

Thanks Chris, I stand corrected.  I also just ripped Brian's new album (I rip everything to FLAC and MP3), so I checked my stats for that track.  Turns out, FLAC isn't as bad as I thought.  At least on this album.  (It obviously varies by track and complexity of data.)  I have a 40.1 MB FLAC file as output for Reibo (track 12 on Taimu).

Sorry, no subjectivity allowed there. wink  Lossless formats (by definition) ensure bit-for-bit identical output when played or otherwise decoded.  Apple Lossless, FLAC, etc. or uncompressed WAV, AIFF...  The identical stream of bits will be sent to your DAC.  Guaranteed, if they came from the same source.

Re: Free "Zen Shakuhachi" recording by Ejun Yechika

Hello, this is komuso zen monk Ejun Iechika. Thank you for your interest in my shakuhachi album. I am now in Japan, but will be coming back to Europe in August and I am planning to live in the Czech Republic. I have some CD's in Europe and I will be able to send them to those who would like when I come there.

Big gassho, Ejun.

You can get it here
http://zenshakuhachi.narod.ru/Shakuhachi/index.html

It looks like the first set of links is not working. The second set was OK when I tried.
Both sets are the same, different size of mp3 files though.
