Bamboo mountain bike

Hocchiku is a recent discipline of mine.  Cycling takes me way back.  Searching for some bike parts today, imagine my surprise when I saw these two worlds intersect...  (sort of)

I thought the bamboo cutters and flute makers here would enjoy this...

Re: Bamboo mountain bike

That's actually a very nice-looking bike when assembled. If I were into bikes, I'd want one. I wonder if binding the bamboo, as well as lacquering the inside, would help with his possible splitting?

I once saw a bicycle in Thailand that was almost all bamboo, including the tires. I wish I had a pic.

Thanks for the link.

Here's one with a bit more 'funk'...

Built in Thailand a while back. Has a fixed gear, so no brakes on this one...

Re: Bamboo mountain bike

Be kinda nice to put an utaguchi and finger holes on the rear fender .. problematic I suppose, when using both hands to hit a nice low Ro at speed.

Re: Bamboo mountain bike

Not to mention the mere fact that the rear fender is not even tubular...
