Skin Irritation (Chin)

I'm new to Shakuhachi and in the first two weeks of playing I'm feeling some skin irritation on my chin. Anyone has experience the same and if so, how common this is?

TIA

Not uncommon, if the bore of your shakuhachi is finished with urushi, which can cause skin irritation to varying degrees in many people.

Have a look at these links:

You can find more references to this if you do a search on the forum (see 'Search', above, in the navbar) for 'urushi' or, 'urushi allergy' or 'urushi irritation'.

If there's no urushi in your shakuhachi it might also be that you're pressing too hard to your chin. That's a common beginner problem too.

That may be the case.. I feel I do, as well as too many hours of practice for a beginner.

Another possibility, though it sounds strange, is facial hair- I find shaved is fine, at least some length beard is fine, but if it's just the wrong amount of stubble it can be irritating as well. Or maybe that's just me.....

Hi Sahar, if your rash is not swollen or bubbly, it's probably just as radi0nome and Glenn suggests. Try playing the flute a little less for now ;(

No rash no more, I think it was just the pressure.
