Hello everyone,
I was just wondering, can't afford it now, if Mejiro's bamboo is quality? It is spendy, but of course that doesn't always mean quality. I've bought from them before, just tools and those are nice. Anyway just wondering if anyone has used their bamboo. Wasn't sure where to post this, but thought this was a good spot. Thanks.

Mejiro's bamboo IS quality, and you get what you pay for. The rub is that you can't pick a costly piece first-hand unless you show up there. On the other hand, they know what they are about in terms of lengths and diameters--their stock is pretty carefully graded.
Elsewhere in the forum I think Tairaku mentioned a woman at Mejiro who is very well informed and has good English.
Also consider Monty Levenson as a source--his material is well graded also.

Ok thanks, I figured it was pretty good at least. I definetely check out Monty Levenson to see what he has.

Also consider Tom Deaver's recent post on availability of culms. I encourage you to email him directly for price and selection. He's only been making shakuhachi for about 35 years, so he may have a few decent pieces laying around....

oh yeah, I saw that, I guess I forgot. I e-mailed him to see if I could stop by when I'm in Japan. I'll probably check out his bamboo then.
