Inoue Shigeshi Passes away

I just found out that one of my teachers, Inoue (Koun) Shigeshi has passed away. He was a wonderful teacher and shakuhachi maker in his mid 80's and who was very ill, in a coma-like state, for these last several years after having had a series of strokes. Inoue Sensei was the last Iemoto of the Nezasa-Ha Kinpu Ryu. I was fortunate enough to have known him well and to have been taught all ten pieces of the Kinpu Ryu by him in the late 80's after a formal introduction by my Kinko Ryu teacher, Yamaguchi Goro. He will be greatly missed by myself and many in the Shakuhachi and Hogaku worlds both inside and outside of Japan.
