Toru - This clip shows John performing a section of the the piece "Toru" using the very difficult and rare Koun Kai notation using a 1.9 length Shakuhachi made by Yamaguchi Shiro. With Noriko Kuma on Shamisen and her student performing on the Koto.. (most shakuhachi players (including the Kawase and Chikumesha groups) use different notation for this piece necessitating the use of two shakuhachi for this one piece (2.0 and 1.8 lengths) in order to make the piece easier to perform.
Rokudan No Shirabe - Performed by John Singer: Honte (basic melody) and Yamato Shudo: Kaete (alternate melody) in Kita Kyushu, Japan in May of 2009.

Thank you for sharing these great videos.
I'm glad John didn't sell the Araki shakuhachi after all. Can you believe the tiny Chi hole (on the instrument)?
