I have the great/old shakuhachi whose bore has developed some cracks in the urushi (from the looks of it - and not cracked bamboo, though there are some cracks on the exterior of the flute). My instinct tells me to seal the bore ASAP. I am planning on covering the entire bore with a fresh coat of lacquer or something. Are there any other considerations I should take into account that might keep me from destroying the flute or its sound?

If it's great, and old, consider sending it to Perry.

60 second clear nail polish along the crack... and I'm done.

Yes. Finger nail polish is always good for a quick fix!
