I started making shakuhachi about six weeks ago.
From the left:
1.6 jinashi (E)
1.8 jinashi (wide bore)
1.9 jinashi (C#)
2.3 jinashi (A#)
2.6 jinashi (A#)
2.9 jinashi (F#)
The 2.6, my most recent flute and still in progress, is my favorite so far. Good access to upper kan and a deep, throaty otsu range. The length is also comfortable for my hands.
2.6 root end
1.9 root end
1.6 jinashi
2.6 jinashi. Still working on the root end and fine-tuning the holes.

Congratulations man,
They are just beautifull.
That`s a lot of shakuhachi for 6 weeks.

Evan, those are some really beautiful looking flutes. Very nice.
I am working on a jinashi 3.2 D# right now that looks very very much like your 2.9 in the picture. Skin, roots, color, placement of holes & nodes, etc. They could be brothers.
I hope you have time to give them each some of your blowing attention! Thanks for sharing!

Wow! Those are looking great. Could you post some pictures of the utaguchis also? Would be interesting to see.
That is really alot of nice flutes for six weeks.
What formula did you use for hole placement on the large flutes?

I generally used the formula from jeremy.org, slightly modified at times (usually 1-2 mm higher than the specified location). You can always enlarge the hole if it's too low.

That looks really great, and nice binding as well!
Seems Jeremy's is a really good tool... I have a few questions about it that I can't figure out. I put them in another thread, perhaps you could see if you know the answer... I'm kind of stuck.
Your work look really good, especially considering the short time you've been doing it! Very inspiring!
Have you done the finish on them yet, or will you go all natural?
