Lincoln, Nebraska

Okay, I know it's terribly unlikely, but does anyone know if of a Shakuhachi teacher in the SE Nebraska area?  I'm expecting to have to seek out some tele-lessons, but I thought I'd try local first.

Re: Lincoln, Nebraska

I realize it's a bit late, but I hope you get this message.  I can't speak of any teachers in the Nebraska area, but I am a student in Omaha.  I studied in Tokyo with Christopher Yohmei.  Of course it would be great to meet another flautist sometime when I am in the area; get in touch.  Best of luck with the search.

Re: Lincoln, Nebraska

I lived in Omaha and just started to play shakuhachi, perhaps we could form a group to meet say once a month to try to teach each other?

Re: Lincoln, Nebraska

Wow, I didn't think I'd get any replies, I was surprised to find these when I was combing through my trash folder. We could try too arrange something, though my life has gotten incredibly busy (I'm restoring a 120 year old home in Beatrice). oceanica, what's your experience?  neoKomuso, are you still there?

I have no training, and I just nightly noodle around with my 'folk Shakuhachi'.  I have just bought some CD's with Honkyoku music and traditional Shakuhachi music, and I admit, I'm having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around it.

I don't think there are any teachers between here and Neb. but there are some players in Chicago too you guys. I get there every once in a while. I'll probably start doing camps there soon.

Re: Lincoln, Nebraska

A shakuhachi camp in Chicago?    FANTASTIC!   Count me in as volunteer help, Chikuzen-sensei.    As far as events go,  compared to the east and west coasts,   except for your one appearance a year,   we are a virtual shakuhachi wasteland.    Hope you can do it.
