Here is a link to the painting I did.
Not really from original material as it's based on a photo I found, but I think its kosher. I've never run into a group of Komuso and wanted to paint them.

You can click full screen to see it bigger. The picture is a little fuzzy sorry.
Here is the link to a Kappa playing shakuhachi that I found at this crazy temple packed full of statues inside and out. I went to "The Louvre" a famous statue (copy) museum in Mie prefecture last weekend. It was quite fun, and then I found this treasure : )

Nice painting!
That Kappa/Shakuhachi statue is a phenomenal find!

So does that mean that multiple commercial copies of that statue exist? I wouldn't mind getting one of those.

I think there are commercial copies of that statue. It's actually quite big, almost human size. It was part of an elaborate band of kappa playing under a waterfall, but the waterfall was at the time not running. It was on the temples grounds. The ones in the museum did have small versions for sale, but no cool shakuhachi ones.

Hey, Tairaku! You could use it as a stand-in for you at the Chado when you want a night off

Great painting, Bogert! I like the detailed background too!
You seem to have many talents!
Is it water painting?

It would be cool to have a robot shakuhachi player at Chado which would randomly play the notes when I'm not there. Maybe I should offer a prize to the person who invents such a thing. I suppose if there was a fipple attachment that would actually be possible.

Cool painting of komuso; I like the statue of kappa playing the shakuhachi; in addition to being a good model for an automaton it's a good idea for a Halloween costume (tried it a decade and a half or so ago ...)

I have a student who does taxidermy and have already talked to him about setting me up with a shakuhachi in my hands, stuffed (and jinashi), with some recorded music that would play when you push a button. Concerts could be done posthumously and even lessons. I'll post this in the buy and sell and start taking reservations for lessons. Pay in advance.

Nice! Kind of the Jeremy Bentham of shakuhachi!

I traded Chris a flute for this painting and another excellent painting of Kodama-san. I am very pleased with these works. I'll be putting them up at Chado.
