Skin sensitivity to handling fresh bamboo culms

I now wear light gloves when handling bamboo in the grove. If I don't, my hands get chaffed from the fine filaments on young bamboo culms and it takes weeks of applying moisturising creams to soften the skin again. It is a bit of a nuisance having to wear gloves as they dull sensitivity but when I also need good hand condition to play, it is the better option.

Any other bamboo handler have this problem ?
What do you do about it ?

Filaments... I think it varies by species. The type that I've recently obtained fresh pieces of has no fine hairs or filaments. Wearing gloves when working with saws, etc. is probably a good idea anyway.
