Hello , everybody, Has anyone on the forum built their own seiza bench? If so, may I please ask for the angle in degrees you used for the plank you sit on. Also, does anyone know of a general measurement from the floor to the underside front edge of the same plank? Otherwise I imagine to sit in seiza and to measure the thickness of space taken up by the bent knee and calf and to allow an extra inch or so. I thought I had seen a year ago plans someone had drawn out and put forth on the forum, but I cannot find it through the search function. I would greatly appreciate the info, Thank you in advance, Sincerely, Clinton

I guess Ed would agree with me here.......Bears fans don't know how to use the Google Search Engine.
Try this:

Amazing...just amazing....
[Here is an interesting concept: http://www.seiza-raku.com/. One way around the angle business is to build a slight curve into the two
legs where they contact the floor. You can indeed put a slight angle where the seat piece contacts the legs, but the curves then make it auto-
matically adjust when you sit on it. I made one like that years ago, and it worked quite well.
Check this one out: http://www.budovideos.com/shop/customer … ctid=21220.
And I like this one even better: http://www.hypnosishealthcare.com/seizafoldbench.html ]

Hey, Thank you very much, Tairaku, Edosan, and Chris Moran, for the instant answers. This is better than a game show! The curved leg bottoms make total sense, I will give that a try. Thanks for all the extra links, guys, highly appreciated. I will peruse them all. When you live in the suburbs of the great state of Wisconsin, brain farts tend to get in the way of using the search engine.

That's a lame-ass excuse. Just look how Tairaku turned out...
Don't make me come over there...

http://www.catizone.com/ as an example of the rounded legs.
Here's a project from someone who makes all sorts of interesting things. He quotes dimensions.

Nice and simple, but the dimensions seem a little odd.
If he really needs a 25 inch wide seiza bench, 1 x 6 cedar might not be up to the load. The wider the span, the more likely it will sag.
It only has to be wide enough to support your sitz bones.
