Hi all,
I was reading about how steady-state cardio in zone 2 is the best for longevity and I figured that Komuso shakuhachi monks got a lot of it!
What do you all do to stay in shape?

Hiking is a great thing to do. it gets me outdoors and in the fresh air. I also do some mountain biking when I can. That is sort of like hiking on a bike.
Then there is yoga and some light martial arts to keep myself limber and in shape.Plus, playing flute has seemed to help my lung capacity too.
At work, I have to lift a 60 lb weight and put it on some valves for tests. So that covers the occasional lifting of weights the komuso did.

That doesn't need a smiley. There's a Tai Chi practioner/(high profile)rollerblader in NYC that does that. He calls himself Bladie Flowness. He has amazing control on skates, he can put on and lace both skates while standing. Think about it, it's a lot more difficult than it sounds.

That sounds like a nice well rounded and fun routine. Right now I take long walks on the beach and do some yoga or lift washed up coral!

I remember all the people doing Tai Chi in the parks when I lived in Chinatown NYC, including weapons Kung Fu.

I saw him and his friends in NYC once. Really truly amazing what they can do on skates. I remember one guy road around for minutes with a huge bottle of water on his head.
